This is my latest work in progress. Currently version 0.5. Short version history: .1-started track, had very random piano melody, around 3:30 long; .2-changed piano, did some work with the bass, added strings, minor production work; .3-fixed up strings to sound better, changed piano again, added arp; .4-lengthened track to around 5:45, no major changes; .5-changed piano melody again (sounds good now! =P), fixed bass to compliment it instead of playing a constant 'C', minor production work (volume levels mostly).

This track is named after one of Jupiter's moons. My plan for my next album I'm working on is to have a track named after Jupiter (another current WIP), this one, and other tracks named after other moons of Jupiter (ex: Ganymede, Io, Callisto, list goes on)

Criticism welcomed and appreciated!

Hmmm... The composition is going well... The part-ambient piano really does give the sound a certain amount of richness. Reading from your desc, I knew the 'C' on the bass had to give some problems. But maybe it's just my preference to play bass on F, F#, G or G#. Or maybe I'm just blurtin crap again. I just woke up so try and understand :P

Right now, the bass is too loud for the mix. I'd say, build this song up, produce it and let us hear it. I'm sure this is going to turn up into some really good Hard Trance.

Oh once again, I love the piano :P

i'm thinking about trying to record some vocals for this, what do you think?

According to Ishkur's guide to EDM this would probably fit best under "Dream Trance" like Robert Miles' first album. IDK though, I like to think I have my own style.

Ishkur's guide has SO MANY sub genres, it's unbelievable.

I personally hate vox in trance, but for you, I wouldn't suggest otherwise seeing that it's merely personal taste and nothing else.

Fit em right in there with a good dose of reverb so that it takes the back and top-mid (considering a 3D space) in the mix. ;)

Try and record separate harmonic versions of the same vox if ya can. That would eliminate the use of artificial chorus-ing and bring in richer tones.

I'm not usually a big fan of vocals either, but I think I want to make this album vocal. It's more of an experiment for me than anything.

Also, do you think I should leave it around the length it is, or should I add more and make it longer? I know a lot of trance tracks usually get up to 8-15 minutes, but my personal taste usually gets bored with stuff like that :P

Robert G uses generic Kate Lesing (sp?) vocals off of compilation CD's. I was going to use my own vocals (male, obviously) because I too hate vocal trance that uses whiney female vocals.
