1am Media [Music] [Hippy Freak] Posts: 1,484 Group: Music Department 4* Member #50 Joined: June 13, 2006	I'm interested in starting a dialogue that may improve/refine the template for the contests. The latest contest has used the optional template after the entries were turned in and judging commenced. My first impulse was to say this was bad - like "surprise, now you know what we were looking for!". After thinking awhile though - that's the way all contests are afterall. You don't know what they will be looking for really. So, I'd like to hear what other people think about this. My personal feeling is that it should be spelled out at the beginning of the contest if there are going to be optional parameters exercised. There are plenty of other sites and contests to play "shoot in the dark". In the past though, there have been others who not only didn't agree, but disagreed with the entire template concept altogether. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Don Shitzinsky Posts: 2,881 Group: Super Moderator Member #24 Joined: March 19, 2006	This is an awesome idea and I know that the part regards my "Lovely Shadow aspect". I only introduced that optional aspect because the competition is very very rough and the main aspects are not enough because by those aspects all of the entries are kind of equal. The next contest is up in monday I think if not a little later on and well to be honest we need to resolve this issue by then.

In fact, I was wondering how that would pan out as I listened to them (I don't envy the judges lol). An entire stream of back-and-forth responses could be started discussing that, but I'm not interested in debating (for a change hehe). I'm just hoping a mixture of members will voice their opinion on this so we can fine-tune the system a bit. Maybe the optional parameter should be required beforehand in all contests to avoid so much neck-and-neck finishes. Surely any contest song creator can think of something they want or hope to hear in the remixes, be it general or specific, that isn't covered in the generic portion of the template. But then again there are probably those who would say that unnecessarily complicates matters. Speak up! Speak up!

You just took the words out of my mouth! What the hell have I been saying all along? To the contest hosts: Please! Make things as transparent as you can beforehand. - The template was introduced so we could have an integral score so we could decide on a single winner, but apparently NO ONE got it. Never mind. - The names of the judges aren't disclosed till the latter stages of the contest to ensure there are no genre biased works. - The optional parameter was to be defined BEFOREHAND as it was mentioned for the first go, again, NO ONE cared. Will someone ever please step up and take hold of things? We ARE a community you know. Not a leadership or a hierarchical system. My 2+2+2+3 more cents.

Perhaps the judge does not consider it right off the bat when the contest is announced. On a personal level I don't have a problem with it. On a site such as this I enter the contests in a spirit of fun.

If they want one, I don't think it should be a problem considering one of the judges is always the host and being the composer of the song, it shouldn't be difficult to think about something "extra" that one is looking for. And since most of the points are already covered in the general template, the optional parameter HAS to be a rarity anyway. I mean, I for one, am most pleased by high production values and a proper groove. So that's what I look for the most in a song. Hence, I shouldn't need an added parameter. Whether you want one or not, should be mentioned before hand so the system is as transparent as possible. I don't have a problem with it being there or not. You guys decide. If it's affecting the system negatively, off it goes! Russ Krauch On a site such as this I enter the contests in a spirit of fun. We all do. But a little face-melting competition among close friends is just awesome! Which is why we like to fight!

I can see both sides of the coin which is why I started this thread
