1am Media [Music] [Hippy Freak] Posts: 1,480 Group: Music Department 4* Member #50 Joined: June 13, 2006	I've played Tales of Pirates up into some decent levels so I thought I'd give a report on it. It is a typical asian-made MMORPG in some respects (interface, movement, hotkeys...) but the art as far as characters, backgrounds and skill animations are very nice. The skill system is above average (as opposed to sucky or great). My only complaint in that area is that what you are playing drives what skills you should get instead of what skills you get determining what you are playing (that will probably only make sense to experienced mmorpg players). At a glance, it looks like the sea voyage system and treasure hunting and things are going to be the focal point of the game. In a nutshell though - it seems to me that the sea system is a series of fantastic ideas that were never seen through all the way. Simply put - it lacks luster and that aspect of the game gets dull very fast. One plus side to this game is that it follows a trend in recent years - particularly in asian made mmorpgs. And that is... it's free. The way they make their money is by offering unique costumes, consumable items that will help you to level, pets and etc. that you can purchase with "mall item points" which are of course... purchased with real money. You can however, have a good time for quite awhile without any of that even crossing your mind. As with all mmorpg these days - you have to beware of people taking advantage of noobs, cheaters, account stealers, hackers.. the usual. But that's anywhere. On a scale of 1-10 I would give Tales of Pirates an 8. If you are the type of person who hops from game-to-game looking for free betas and open test games just so you don't have to pay monthly fees.. I highly recommend you look into the trend from the east of Free2Play which most of the time is set up to sell game items as I described above. They are not flimsey beta games half done - they are just a clever new way of extorting money from the obsessed Also, if you prefer - pirateking online is the exact same game, only focusing more on the malaysia and fillipino customer base. Anyways, thought I'd share something about the most recent game I've been playing. It gets pretty boring and frustrating around level 60's but there's plenty of fun to be had before that. www.talesofpirates.com byebye edit// One major thing I forgot. If you try this game, search for your questions in the forums section that applies. And/or use the web site encyclopedia. You will almost never get anyone to answer you in-game. That is because it is a constant bombardment of the same questions over-and-over-and-over in chat and experienced players eventually ignore it.

That way if you have a bad month or something monetarily, you aren't just flapping in the wind so to speak. There are definitely probably better MMORPG (die WoW die) - but that above mention is a major draw for my broke butt

I have to say, I have not been too happy with the features they added because they brought as many bugs with them as features. However, being free2play, it's still worth the download. It just doesn't receive as raving review from me as it did in earlier form. Maybe they will clean the bugs up and I will be two thumbs up again.
